Added a bit more to
Conversations with God excerpts - about Karma Loca - and a couple of links - sounds similar to Tibetan Book of the Dead ...
Here's one of the links to mention Karma Loca -
I love the end bit -
"These teachings are not the legacy of any particular race or creed, but can be found in the theology and traditions of the World. To those readers who may find it absurd or incomprehensible I can offer no apology, accept what you can and pass on the rest. The intention is to inform and contemplate the arcane teachings of creation and evolution. But if we analyse the perplexity of extraterrestrial life in the light of these teachings, then we must concede to the unity of all existence, we are not alone. Humankind is but one of numerous other cosmic species inhabiting countless other worlds, manifesting to the laws of the one absolute reality. All creation is evolving in a vortex of infinite rounds of birth and death."
Yes, it is sad to read the 'venom' in many people's opinions ... the need to insult those you don't agree with ... one HUGE deterrent to that is the karmic principle of 'that which you condemn you will one day become' ... because whilst you're condemning a person's choice/opinion/belief you're not remotely considering the possibility 'that could be me' or 'that could have been me in the past' ... and even this staement of mine could be interpreted ... there are few saints on this planet JUST at the moment ... and in many regions, the weapons used are far more deadly than mere words but the genesis is the same ...
But I try to remind myself that sudden/unexpected transformations can & do take place ... and the very fact that most of us aren't saints means that a venomous outlook eventually experiences enough of the consequences of that outlook to seek a way to modify it ... one way or another ...
I suppose, that's what makes Christ's words "Father, forgive them" on the Cross so extraordinary ... most of us rarely hesitate to take the bait of mere insults and disagreements so often become personal ... and nobody wins a war-of-words ...

I suppose the real wisdom (as Gary
Zukav says) is to realise that the anger or the insult is coming from a place of pain withing the other person - a place so painful that they'd rather 'deal with' being angry or confronting than face that pain ... and I've been there ...
Yes, the old adage is spot on: "If you need to put someone else down to lift yourself up ..."

Forum getting a little personal ... time for a break ... though conflict can be instructive if only to remind one of the universal human tendency to break things down into 'Us' & 'Them' ... and the enormous challenge of 'treating everyone the same' whether they share our views or not ... :) ... a constant challenge ... the BEST remedy is to probe the causes of the 'Us & Them' mentality and realise it is ultimately unhealthy in the exxtreme ...
Then again it's very mild compared with some of the atheist versus fundamentalist debates ... :)
For example - well this one is less heated -
and scroll down to epstein ...
Yes ... as i posted a while back - 'why does it bother me?' - whenever you encounter somebody whose views you don't 'agree' with - interesting question to explore ... as with SO many human problems ... its root can be traced back to unhealthy (fear-based) attachment ... but as JB would say, 'Why is it so?' ...

Yes ... native wisdom ... and the concept of 'ownership' ... we take it for granted in this culture and as if that's the only way it can be ... :) ... plus the pacific cultures which have no actual word for "God" ... because they see God everywhere and in everything ...
Overheard on bus - "Who is happy these days?" ... sadly a true reflection of many people's experience ... I'd say this experiment is a success - we have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that if you disconnect human beings from nature and from any real sense of spirit ... then you create a very twisted and troubed society ...

Interesting posts around # 544450 on truth and yes, persuasion ... and how it so often becomes personal ...
So I chime in with -
My favourite definitions of truth:
"The Truth is a living entity. Your mind can never capture it. Once you speak, you leave Its domain. You move into the denser realm of fact or guess. Once there, someone can always contradict what you say."
Plus a quote from Kierkegaard (spelling?) that the truth is that which makes you a better being. So it's apersonal thing. :)
Besides which, who's to judge if you are a 'better' being? Better than what? :)
Namaste.
.... then I thought of a few excerpts from that wonderful book I just happened to pick up a year or so ago at a closing down sale ET101: The cosmic instruction manual for planetary evolution by Zoev Jho (aka Diana Luppi) -
(For more detail - click here)
* Liquid water on that planet
* origin of life occuring on that planet
* Evolution from those simple life forms to much more complex species
* Evolution of intelligent creatures
* Civilisation developing along a line that leads to technology
* Somehow avoiding self-annihilation as pace of technological development outstrips spiritual development.
* Yet, if FAR more spiritual, there'd be insufficient drive to explore the OUTER universe as opposed to the INNER ...
* And many of the above we have only guesstimates as to how 'likely' they are to happen ...

Starbuilders
We have noticed that you pretend to value truth on this planet. Some spend a lifetime seeking it. Your legal systems demand it, and you can be sued if your business doesn't practise it. Your philosophers define it, your scientists measure it, your religions exalt it, and you all fight over it. Meanwhile, all you are doing is paying global lip service to it. There is an excellent reason for all this: You have no idea what truth really is.
How the obvious has escaped you is a tedious story. The abridged version of it amounts to this: You embraced fear. After that unholy act, it has been downhill ever since. Fear is the first lie, the lie that tells you that you are separated from the whole. Once it has been embraced, you are incapable of ever telling the truth under any circumstances without blowing the game.
Truth, by its nature, is the light. Fear cannot, by its nature, be in the light without dying. It becomes a simple matter of self interest. Fear has owned this planet, its people, and their systems for a long time. It does not wish to give up the property it has acquired because it is a parasitic life form which cannot live separated from your life forces.
The truth is, you are the truth. It is not external to you, as you have been led to believe. For that reason, it is ludicrous to set out on a spiritual journey in search of it. It is likewise ridiculous to punish those who do not practice it when almost nobody on this planet does. As for philosophising over it, how can you when you wouldn't recognise it if it ran over you in the street? Meanwhile, measuring it is done in your attempt to dominate it, leading you further into the lie that it lives outside of you like an enemy that must be controlled. To exalt it is also to see it as separate. And fighting over it is so absurd as to not deserve our comment at all.
The totality of your clinically insane behaviour surrounding truth has been cleverly manipulated by fearin its attempts to keep your eyes off the truth. In this manner, fear was able to continue uninterrupted and undetected in its process of eating you alive. But don't worry - ther is a cure. All you need do is awaken to the fact that you are the truth. As the light comes on, the parasite will die, leaving you joyously able to reclaim command.
- ET101: The cosmic instruction manual for planetary evolution by Zoev Jho (aka Diana Luppi)
It's a great little book if you ever see it around. I just happened to pick it up at a book sale last year and I love the blend of humour and insight. One without the other is somehow less memorable. There is much truth to be found in its pages. :)
That also reminds me of Ascension of the planetary consciousness - also at starbuilders ... link?? ...
in fact i may paste some excerpts into aotpc.htm ...

There's an interesting tie-in between 'Native Wisdom" and ET101 - I will have to dig up the ET book but it refers to the American Indians as fifth dimensional emissaries or something like that ... which also ties in with other stuff I have been reading ... :)

... IF I remember to UPLOAD it ... :)
Another interesting episode of Voyager and the Borg drone and the ultimate fear after being 'one of many' - to be on the starship with everyone else in suspended animation ... hallucinations etc ... hmmm ... plus some scenes trying to teach her the 'niceties' of social conversation ... like humour, it's not until someone imagines a totally different scenario that you realise how much we take 'the way things are' as 'the way things ought to be' or the only way ...

A bit subdued the past couple of days - reminds me what the ordinary folk are experiencing on a daily basis and makes me wonder how anyone stays so 'sane' & 'rational' & 'normal' ... not to mention the question of why anyone would ... but that's a little uncompassionate I realise so I'll stop there as it's a line of thought the Dalai Lama would most likely not allow himself to entertain ... :)
Compiled the insights from The Celestine Prophecy into a separate file - after posting them to the Forum ... yes, my own experience is analogous ... :)

Friday the 13th - it's a good job I'm not superstitious ...
Some interesting stuff at forum about skepticism & the power of belief - or nonbelief ... may add some more stuff to "Passing Thoughts" - at this rate it will be a book in itself ... :)
More interesting stuff at forum - got me thinking about the word 'argument' - most people use it to denote a somewhat 'heated' exchange of 'opinions' ... or conflicting desires/wants/needs etc ... and a book in the library sheds 'new light' on it - i continue to be amazed at HOW many ways there are to say essentially the same thing ... angelfire site is a bit crammed? - tried to get 50 meg ... so put these excerpts into fortune city - click here - if I remember ... (A link from angelfire???)

For "Passing Thoughts -
Look up chinese symbol for 'opportunity' or 'crisis' - supposedly identical ... I think dave told me about that didn't he ... a bit like the concept of 'empowerment' ... the first time you encounter an idea (or a person for that matter) ... it can slip past if you are not paying full attention ...

and the next few messages after that ... then again I am back square in that 'place' where i only need a little gentle 'nudge' to feel inspired and that nudge can come from the most unexpected or 'ordinary' thing ... other days a ton of TNT wouldn't provide sufficient 'nudge' ... :)
And there remains much debate about manic-depreesion and all mood 'disorders' (just realised even the word disorder is a comparative one!) ... and indeed all diseases ... I mean WHY does anyone EVER get sick at all ... in theory if you did NOT age or get ill ... you could live forever ... but that might just throw the structures and economies of societies into a bit of chaos ... I remember at one stage speculating that all illness and eventhe aging process itself was fundamentally a subconscious form of suicide. It's slow suicide for many people but they probably aren;t in a hurry. Oh, I am wicked aren't I ... :)
Yes, the
Chopra Forum is a fabulous resource ... when you consider there have been times when I thought 'why a forum?' if all the answers are in his books just go off and read them and apply the tips and ideas to each & every situation until you are fully awakened. :)
Then I realised there is a near infinite variety of indiviuals and personality 'types' ... and what works for one may be 'useless' to another ...
Yesterday i picked up Melbourne's Child - some interesting articles on parenting etc and some websites ... those thoughts may get typed up into "Passing Thoughts" ...
And a couple of more passing thoughts on self-esteem and role models may also go into that (growing) file ... yes, one could well argue that those who are so driven to 'achieve' & 'accomplish' and set 'goals' are actually suffering from a low or fragile self-esteem because they feel this need to do something 'remarkable' in order to feel validated or to 'win' the approval or esteem of others ... true self-esteem just can't be manufactured from worldly pursuits or 'status' ... one day we'll see this ... I mean in a society where people do not feel as if they have unconditional worth ... well, look around you - this is what you get - drugs, suicide, violence, addictions, anger, frustration etc etc ... and I really hate to bring you down like that but unless/until people realise the root cause of these problems there will never be anything but band-aid solutions ...
More interesting stuff at Chopra Forum - continuing the Ghandi theme - his comments about western 'civilisation' ... I like the one where he supposedly said a westerner can attain enlightenment ... but only if they are reborn as an easterner! :) ...
And some of the past messages are great - after the one about manic-depression there is one which invites other readers to post their experiences of what or who brings them 'utter joy' ...
Some sites to maybe check out ... (from "Melbourne's Child")
Scienceworks & the new museum
Sugar Creek - makers of wooden toys
Plus a few more ...
On Seinfeld - "It would be like saying to Pavarotti, teach me to sing like you." (George & how to beat a lie detector - 'It's not a lie if you believ it.')
Then from the ridicylous to the sublime ... I use Bookshelf CD to look up a few quotes of Gandhi - so many I may create a new file of them -
Thoughts of Gandhi

Plus a Satish kumar interview - which mentions Gandhi & 'spiritual egoism' whic is something a lot of 'seekers' would do well to consider ... me included ... :)
Another trip to the library ... nothing earth-shaking to report ...
Plus a few more idle 'speculations' along the lines of just what a NARROW range human 'survival' consciousness fits into! - you need to be able to focus, sometimes for long periods when quite bored, follow routines, interact with others - language being a prime factor - ... so somebody whose 'mind' was in a state of constant amazement wondering at the fact that anything exists ... would be classified as having a serious 'disbility' ... interesting - may write more on this later ...
From NetNation email -

Passing Thoughts ...
and from 6666 messages ago (number 47,199 ?) comes this -
"I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an eight year-old again. I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day. I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset. I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again. I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness and loss of loved ones. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow. So...here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause... 'Tag! You're it.'"

Then I wander round the library as all the internet computers were occupied ... interesting book by Bill Moyers called Healing and the mind ... I open it to page 167 ... wonderful painting by Magritte called "The Therapist" - similar to the one at top of this ... David Spiegel and therapy ... yes, coloured by my own experiences I do tend to make 'blanket' statements ... I mean the "Ideal Day Program" has therapies that actually do heal rather than pacify, subdue and stagnate ...
... and as I walk past this woman she is pulling out and then replacing "In Six days" ... too much ... I felt a momentary impulse to say 'Great book - I've got it at home' but I succesfully reisted the urge an it passed off into whatever place such toughts and impulses pass onto after they are no longer part of an individual's consciousness or awareness. Maybe into some vast pool of 'experience' or 'missed opportunities' to be resolved at some future time ...
Watched "Never Ending Story II" - very interesting plot as the father reads the book and sees HIS son's name in it and then his own ... yes, the very word 'amazing' is based on the idea that only a small range of events or experiences or ideas actually 'happen' and anything eles is amazing or 'unbelievable' or 'impossible' ... as I wrote to the forum the otter day, languge does shape our experiences in subtle and profound ways ...
More poosible ideas for the book -
'It's probably pointless to 'compare' one person's experiences with another person's ... but I can take ONE look at people and I instantly know they have not been anywhere near the places I have been and I feel a mixture of sadness & compassion and frustration and yes sometimes satisfaction that i have done something they didn't have the guts or the imagination to do ... I'll be honest about that ... '
{Could add a lot more to that train of thought ...}
And NOBODY is really impartial anyway ... but you look at some faces and you have to wonder ...
"My doctor tells me worlds from taste - worlds from lives - worlds from worlds" ...

I now realise that the Forum is an addiction holding me back from greater awareness. By posting 'my' thoughts I have unknowingly been identifying with them. I will now take Deepak's tip to heart and cling to nothing as being 'me' or 'mine'.
Anyone out there want to by my television? or my CD player ... how about my house ... of course if I take this too far you'll have no way to contact 'me'.
Au Revoir.
Another dozen or more pages to type up - they may end up in pasing.htm - one thing's for sure, the forum has given me much FOOD4THOUGHT which may or may not be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at things ...

Actually, that silly post above ... is in complete ACCORD with a book i happened to pick up at Springvate Library yesterday "The Light of Experience" - may transcribe bits into
passing.htm as well ... Jesus as guru ... money as a separator ... all good stuff... people's own tales of life experiences that led them to view things as they currently view them ...
Could return for a last 'hit' ... addictions are tough to break. If i ever return again can you please abuse me and tell me I'm crazy (or tell me something I don't know) ... trouble is I'm now not taking anything personally (perhaprs the single greatest piece of advice ever given - if you really think about it - or even if you judt do it :) so even insults might not be enough to break my addiction ... I need help. Does anyone want to start up a Chopra Forum Addicts group? we could meet once a week via the internet and share our experiences ... oh I am wicked aren't I ...
Havn't visited too many personla webpages for a while - you tend to forget where the 'mere mortals' are 'at' and their efforts to get it all to 'work' ... with varying degrees of success ... anyways ...

Been absolutely FLYING lately ... and not clinging as well - which can be a tough balancing act as the usual human impulse is to want to 'bottle the experience' ... maybe I am making 'progress' ...

Re-visited a few 'old' links - of all the 'stuff' I should have printed out and on hand - that article by lama Yeshe on 'mental illness' is so spot on ... here's a bit -

Then again, how often do I open up
Conversations with God and absorb it ... and as someone at the forum said there is SO much more in books II, III, IV and number V coming ... hmmm ... then again they all speak of awakening and trusting your own inner wisdom ... hmmm ...
But at the same time ... there is also this little voice asking "Why? Why do we need all these books and so much 'practice' if that is our true nature ...
I heard the other day someone say something along the lines that the 'flaws' we most notice in others are precisely those things in ourselves that we most need to work on. Food-for-thought ... :)
Added a couple more links to that list of 'Interesting mental health links' -
'As far as we're concerned, even being susceptible to future problems means that your mind is not healthy. All of us here are basically the same, in that our minds are dissatisfied.'

The perennial topics - but some new 'insights' into the real causes of worry - and phrasing it in ways I had not previously thought much about - the statement "You are our son" is a statement of temporary identity - people JUST don't see this ... if a mother is saying that - conside rthis - in a past life the 'son' almost certainly was a female and the 'mother' was a male ... our intrinsic nature is neither male nor female but SO many people will say "I am a man" or I am a woman as IF it is their permanent identity ... it's actually the cause of all the world's problems - clinging to a temporary identity.
Yes, that was brilliant advice on that
Millennium webcast
- "If I could give you one piece of advice, I would say that nothing is to be clung to as 'me' or 'mine' ... then you look around and people say these are 'my kids' or 'my body' or 'my feelings' ... if you REALLY took that advice seriously ... if everybody did ... the mind boogles ...
That's just a quick overview - often the stuff rushes through my consciousness at breakneck speed and I only record 'bits & pieces' ... oh well ... it's all good training in TRUST and not clinging to anything ...
An athlete actualy said 'This is the best feeling anyone could ever have.' ... omniscience MUST be nice ... then again, I am reminded of the futility of trying to 'poke holes' or find flaws in the way another person views 'reality' ... tough to do though at times ...
Besides which ... an interesting question to ask at MANY junctures is 'why does that bother you' ... in itself requires you 'step back' from the situation or your habitual reaction ...
(Yet, at the same time, i realise that trying to convince one's self by persuading others is an ancient human tradition ... )
Quite a few more mantras added to

I post Seinfeld quote - about being cheerful - and some 'bizarre' wisdom quotes to forum ... and I need to take MY own advice of not taking my self or anyone else too seriously ... plus next time - share a bit of my Acacia experience - esp John being IN my face and how that helped a LOT ... and I have never EVER laughed like I did in there ... and the poem One Man's Heaven ... hmmm ... yes, I have to remind myself NOT many people can say that the most extraordinary experience of their life was seven days in a psychiatric ward ... :)
Yes, there's 'scary crazy' and there's 'inspired crazy' ... reminds me of some Vincent Van Gogh quotes I have somewhere ... here -
Interesting episode of Voyager called "Unforgettable" ... must be a website somewhere with scripts etc ...

Excerpts from The Troubled Mind

Started flicking thru Dalai book on sleeping, dreaming & dying - when you look at what we in the 'west' fill our heads with and then the tibetan views/attitudes/teachings ... it's enough to make one weep ... may transcribe best bits - on transition states & karma & inheritance of mental tendencies & identity & all the big & mysterious questions you can't really 'nail down' which is why western science struggles to even define the problem or the phenomenon ...

I post this off the top-of-my-head ...
You're quite correct. The only things on this page are words. Words are completely neutral. What you 'make' of them is a reflection of where you're at. Another person's habit is only 'annoying' if you choose to be annoyed. If you want a real challenge try imagining what it would take to get to a 'place' where it doesn't annoy you or a place where you can 'see' where they are 'coming from' - whether you 'agree' with them or not. Just out of curiousity, why would you return time-and-again to aplace that is full of cliches? No pun intended and thanks for sharing.
Namaste.
Milk is the necessary whimsy of the lifetimes - today I seem back to 'full power' ... life is strange ... but would I have it any other way??
In a really 'bizarre' mood - I won't say anything but READ post # 53,673 by Anne O'Nymous ... should post another of my 'mantras' ... Good-good-good is lifetime good ...

Oh yes, found there is another Lobsang Rampa book in Dandy Library - "Feeding the flame" - he speaks of suicide and how we ALL choose the various difficulties & situations we'll encounter in each lifetime ... he's not the only one saying that ... a couple of years ago I'd have said that's hogwash - just look at the world and tell me you believe that! ... if it is true then the perplexing thing is why SO many people seem to find themselves in situations they haven't a clue how to handle ... and having xperienced the 'psychiatric' system - for many people life itself seems to be a situation they aren't equipped to handle ... makes me wonder ... then again is that 'better' or 'worse' than those who trundle on reluctantly when deeeep down they know this is a ridiculous way to live ... who's to say ...
